Context
A congenital malformation is a condition existing at birth and often before birth. Congenital malformations can be genetic, it can result from exposure of the fetus to a malforming agent (alcohol,drugs, pesticides), or it can be of unknown origin. Congenital malformations are now the leading cause of infant mortality in many developed nations.
